Apple Campus
Zeller & Moye, Cupertino, USA
As part of a collaboration between architecture studio Zeller & Moye and artist Katie Paterson, Mirage is a large-scale sculptural installation composed of hundreds of solid cast-glass cylinders. The work is integrated into the landscape of Apple Park in Cupertino, California, positioned within an olive grove near the visitor center on the company’s main campus.
The installation weaves a continuous path through the trees, inviting visitors to engage with the landscape through a subtle choreography of movement, reflection, and materiality. Varying in texture, color, and clarity, the glass columns unfold sequentially, guiding visitors along a route that connects architectural experience with geological narrative.
The title Mirage refers to the atmospheric effect created by light interacting with the glass forms. As sunlight filters through the grove, the columns appear to dissolve into their surroundings, shifting in tone and translucency throughout the day. The result is a quiet interplay between nature, light, and human presence.
To realize the installation at this scale, the design and fabrication teams developed new methods for casting and finishing architectural glass. The technical ambition of the work is balanced by its restrained aesthetic, integrating seamlessly with the natural setting and enhancing the experiential quality of the landscape.
More than a sculptural intervention, Mirage serves as a contemplative space for both visitors and employees—encouraging moments of rest, reflection, and informal gathering. As part of the broader vision for Apple Park, the work reinforces the campus’s commitment to art, architecture, and landscape as interconnected elements of a coherent spatial experience.

Mirage
“Visitors experience Mirage by walking along columns that reveal stories of the world’s deserts. The sculpture unfolds piece by piece, through gradually shifting color, surface texture and material consistencies.”
