Neutral Realism
We believe in the diversity of answers
Every project is different. Instead of following trends or working with an agenda, we encourage our team to develop their own point of view and reflect it in their work. As a collective of individuals, we support a culture of individuality and expression which allows us to find diverse answers to the myriad of design challenges brought to us by our clients and collaborators.
Representational Styles
There is no single answer that fits every question—just as there is no single representational style suited to every project. Over the years, we have developed the expertise to guide our clients in choosing the most appropriate medium and style of representation, and to execute each approach at a world-class level.
On this website, we have highlighted three distinct collections highlighting a different representational style. Taking the form of a conceptual “book,” each collection showcases completed work that exemplifies the respective stylistic approach. In the absence of more precise terminology, we refer to these three styles as: Neutral Realism, Romantic Realism, and Saturated Realism.
Neutral Realism
This book presents images we have categorized under the heading Neutral Realism.
To us, Neutral Realism means that lighting, camera perspective, objects, and human figures are used in such a way that the architecture remains at the center of attention.
The focus lies on form and materiality; compositions are often planar, with soft daylight, restrained color usage, and a finely calibrated palette that together create a sense of calm concentration. The subtleties of a design are neither overshadowed by harsh cast shadows nor drowned in oversaturated colors. In this context, people and entourage elements are either omitted entirely or serve solely as scale references. The architecture tells its own story, uninterrupted and unembellished by narratives imposed by human figures.
The visualizations in this book were created in collaboration with the following architects: SO – IL, Herzog & de Meuron, Barozzi Veiga, and others
